Washington: US President Donald Trump has warned Russia and China against supplying weapons to Iran, saying that any such move would not only escalate tensions in the Middle East but would also be against the interests of both Moscow and Beijing.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that, to the best of his knowledge, neither China nor Russia is currently providing weapons to Iran. He warned that if either country chose to do so, it would face serious consequences.
The US president said that Chinese President Xi Jinping had assured him during their meeting in Beijing in May that China would not arm Iran under any circumstances. Trump added that he trusted Xi’s assurance based on the relationship between the two countries.
Trump further stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin had given him a similar assurance. According to Trump, Putin believes that the United States does not directly supply weapons to Ukraine but instead sells them to NATO allies, which then decide how those weapons are distributed.
The remarks came as US authorities continue to investigate reports suggesting that Russia and China may have provided Iran with sensitive intelligence or military information following recent attacks.
Meanwhile, the ongoing military confrontation between the United States and Iran has intensified. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), strikes have targeted command centers, drone facilities, communications networks, and naval assets linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). US officials said the operations are intended to reduce threats to international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
On the other hand, Tehran strongly condemned the US strikes and warned that any continuation of the attacks could further widen the conflict. Iranian officials said recent airstrikes targeted several locations, including Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, and areas along the Caspian Sea coast, leaving at least four people dead and several others injured.
