New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and prominent Tamil actor Vijay has called for the complete abolition of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and openly backed the ongoing student protests in New Delhi over the alleged examination paper leak controversy.
In a statement posted in Tamil on social media platform X, Vijay said that his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has a clear position that the NEET examination system should be scrapped entirely.
He said his party would neither engage in vote-bank politics nor make false promises, adding that the current examination system has caused significant hardship not only for students but also for their families.
The "Master" and "Leo" star urged the Indian central government to restore education to the State List, arguing that this is the only way to permanently end centralized entrance examinations such as NEET.
Vijay further proposed that if constitutional or legal hurdles prevent such a move, the government should introduce an interim arrangement granting states full authority over education, including medical admissions and educational policy.
His statement came just hours before the release of his final film as an actor, "Jana Nayagan." With this announcement, Vijay joined several prominent personalities, including Prakash Raj, Shabana Azmi, and Riteish Deshmukh, in expressing support for protests over the alleged NEET paper leak controversy.
