Karachi: The Government of Sindh has entrusted the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) with the execution of four major infrastructure projects worth Rs8.5 billion in Karachi. Construction on three of these projects is scheduled to begin in August.
One of the flagship projects includes the construction of a new flyover (interchange) near the Northern Bypass on the M-9 Super Highway. The Sindh Local Government Department has initiated the process of obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the National Highway Authority (NHA), as the flyover will cross the motorway.
The new interchange will provide direct connectivity between Jinnah Avenue, Malir Cantonment Road, Hyderabad, and Sohrab Goth, significantly reducing travel time and eliminating the need for lengthy U-turns. The project is estimated to cost Rs2.3 billion, including the rehabilitation and beautification of Jinnah Avenue.
Another major project involves the construction of a flyover connecting Abul Hasan Isphahani Road at Al-Asif Square on the motorway. The project carries an estimated cost of Rs2.1 billion, with construction expected to begin in August.
Additionally, road development work from Y Junction to Machhli Chowk on Hawksbay Road and the road leading to Kaka Pir will be carried out at a cost of Rs4.162 billion. Work on the Malir Halt Underpass is also expected to commence shortly.
According to the Sindh Government, these projects will significantly reduce traffic congestion, improve road connectivity, and provide better commuting facilities for Karachi residents.
