Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that the police can improve their public image only through outstanding performance, emphasizing that protecting citizens, ensuring justice, and bringing lawbreakers before the courts are the force’s primary responsibilities.
Addressing the 132nd Passing-Out Parade at the Saeedabad Police Training Centre, the chief minister congratulated more than 300 women who completed their training and said he was pleased to see a new batch of officers ready to serve the public.
He said it is now the responsibility of the newly trained personnel to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the people of Sindh.
Murad Ali Shah noted that Pakistan continues to face the challenge of terrorism and paid tribute to the sacrifices made by security personnel. Referring to operations in the riverine (Katcha) areas, he said the region had recently faced serious security challenges but assured that the sacrifices of the martyrs would not go in vain.
He reiterated that improving the performance of the Sindh Police remains one of his government's top priorities and pledged continued efforts for the welfare of police personnel and the resolution of their issues.
The chief minister also said that the Sindh government is committed to modernizing the police force and expressed confidence that the graduating officers would further enhance the reputation of Sindh Police through dedicated service.
Speaking on the occasion, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Javed Alam Odho said the strength of the police force depends on a professional and well-trained workforce. He said protecting the public, delivering justice, and serving with sincerity are the force’s core objectives, adding that wearing the police uniform is both an honor and a great responsibility.
The IGP said eliminating street crime in Karachi and eradicating banditry in the Katcha areas remain major challenges. He also urged the government to approve an increase in trainers’ allowances and to upgrade the police training centres in Razzaqabad, Sakrand, and Hyderabad to the status of Police Training Schools.
