Mirpur: Senior Sindh Minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Inam Memon has alleged that attempts were made to influence voters ahead of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections by sending electric buses worth Rs200 million to the region just one day before polling.
Speaking to the media in Mirpur, Sharjeel Memon claimed that the deployment of the buses amounted to pre-poll rigging, accusing political opponents of trying to mislead voters through material incentives.
He questioned whether voters could be influenced through the distribution of buses and other resources, saying, "Can the people of Kashmir be bought with trucks, buses, or financial incentives?"
The PPP leader said party representatives had reached Mirpur to monitor the electoral process and prevent alleged irregularities. He also urged the Election Commission to take notice of what he described as the involvement of federal ministers in election-related activities.
Sharjeel Memon expressed confidence that the people of AJK would place their trust in the PPP and would not be swayed by what he called symbolic or material inducements.
Meanwhile, electric buses arrived in Mirpur, AJK, on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Chief Minister said the delivery of the buses fulfilled a commitment made by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, describing the initiative as part of the party's promise to improve public transport in the region.
