Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has strongly criticized U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks about using Iran's frozen assets to compensate for damage to commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that Trump would have to pay a "much heavier price" for such an approach.
In a post on X, Araghchi said that confiscating another country's assets and using them to settle unrelated future claims would set an extremely dangerous and provocative precedent.
He further warned that those who celebrate or benefit from the seizure of frozen assets should remember that once governments normalize asset confiscation, no country's assets will remain safe.
"The resulting chaos will be neither pleasant nor peaceful," Araghchi said.
In a separate post, the Iranian foreign minister stated that the reckless and aggressive approach advocated by President Trump would only ensure that the U.S. president "pays a far heavier price than before."
