Karachi: Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police Javed Alam Odho has proposed a significant increase in trainers’ allowances, recommending that the allowance for trainers in Grades 1 to 16 be raised from Rs3,000 to Rs30,000.
Speaking at the 132nd Passing-Out Parade held at Shaheed Hayat Police Training College, Saeedabad, the IG congratulated the graduating personnel and urged them to prioritize public service, the rule of law, and professionalism throughout their careers.
He said the strength of the police force depends on qualified personnel and strong human resources, adding that protecting the public, ensuring justice, and serving with sincerity remain the core responsibilities of the police.
Javed Alam Odho described the police uniform as both an honor and a great responsibility, noting that the people and the government of Sindh have high expectations of the police force. He added that eliminating street crime in Karachi and eradicating banditry in the riverine (Katcha) areas remain among the force’s biggest challenges.
The IG also announced plans to upgrade Shaheed Hayat Police Training College Saeedabad and Police Training College Shahdadpur into Centres of Excellence.
He said approximately Rs9.45 billion would be required for the upgradation of the two institutions, while an additional Rs249.99 million would be needed annually, apart from the regular budget, to meet operational expenses.
Javed Alam Odho further stated that the Sindh Chief Minister’s approval to increase monthly diet charges for trainee police personnel from Rs5,500 to Rs10,000 is currently pending with the Finance Department and expressed hope that it would be implemented soon.
He also proposed increasing the training allowance for Grades 17 to 21 officers from Rs5,000 to Rs50,000.
The IG further recommended the creation of new posts for Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, and Assistant Sub-Inspectors in the Training Branch, as well as upgrading the training centres in Razzaqabad, Sakrand, and Hyderabad to the status of Police Training Schools.
