Riyadh: Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al Jaber, has accused the Houthi militia of turning Yemen into a pawn in the hands of foreign powers, saying the country is being used to serve external interests at the expense of its security, stability, and the well-being of its people.
In a series of posts on social media platform X, Al Jaber said Yemenis living in Houthi-controlled areas continue to suffer from oppression, hunger, and persistent human rights violations.
He further alleged that the Houthis are spreading false narratives in an attempt to shift responsibility for their failures and the humanitarian crisis onto external parties, while avoiding accountability for the suffering they have caused.
The Saudi envoy reaffirmed that Saudi Arabia will continue to support the Yemeni people and back all efforts aimed at reopening Sanaa International Airport for commercial flights, enabling civilians to travel. He claimed that the Houthis have suspended flights from the airport without legitimate justification.
Al Jaber also stated that Saudi Arabia would continue supporting the operation of Hodeidah’s ports to ensure the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid and essential goods to the Yemeni people. At the same time, he accused the Houthi militia of continuing attacks on civilian commercial vessels in the Red Sea, describing them as a threat to international maritime navigation and regional security.
He emphasized that lasting peace in Yemen cannot be achieved through slogans or political maneuvering but requires a genuine commitment to prioritizing the interests of Yemen and its people, rejecting violence, foreign interference, and external agendas that have prolonged the conflict and deepened the humanitarian crisis.
Concluding his remarks, Al Jaber said Saudi Arabia would continue to stand by the Yemeni people and support the country’s internationally recognized government until Yemen achieves lasting peace, security, and stability.
