Karachi: (Report : Shahzad Jalbani) According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh, five people lost their lives in rain-related incidents across the province during the last 24 hours.
The report stated that three children and one adult drowned in Tharparkar, while one person was killed after the roof of a house collapsed in Badin.
PDMA said that since July 3, continuous monsoon rains have claimed the lives of 10 people, including five children, while eight others have been injured in various rain-related incidents.
Rainfall data showed that Kot Ghulam Muhammad in Mirpurkhas district received the highest rainfall of 112 mm during the past 24 hours. Mirpurkhas city recorded 110 mm, while Hussain Bux Mari received 106 mm of rain.
Other recorded rainfall included 85 mm each in Hyderabad City and Hyderabad Rural, 82 mm in Latifabad, 67 mm in Dahli, 66 mm in Sindhri, 61 mm in Tando Adam, and 60 mm in Khlui.
The report further stated that two breaches developed in the Mirwah Canal in Badin, which were promptly repaired by the district administration.
During the last 24 hours, PDMA Sindh deployed 24 dewatering vehicles to various districts. Karachi received 10 vehicles, Hyderabad five, Umerkot three, while Tharparkar, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Mirpurkhas received two vehicles each. One vehicle each was also dispatched to several other districts.
PDMA Sindh Director General Syed Salman Shah urged the public to avoid standing under trees or near water during thunderstorms, warning that such locations carry a higher risk of lightning strikes. He also advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions.
