Karachi: A five-member inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the reported HIV cases at Landhi Social Security Hospital. The committee has been directed to complete its investigation and submit its report within seven days.
According to media reports, the committee, headed by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Naila Zaheer, will conduct a comprehensive audit of the procurement, availability, and use of medicines and disposable medical supplies. It will also review the hospital’s Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures, biomedical waste management practices, and compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The committee will verify all reported HIV cases, laboratory test results, and patient records. It will also examine the records of affected patients, healthcare workers, and their family members.
In addition, investigators will assess the possible sources of infection, epidemiological links between the reported cases, injection administration practices, and the use of disposable syringes. The committee has also been instructed to compile complete data on affected children and their parents.
Authorities said the committee will identify any individuals or institutions found responsible and submit recommendations aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
