Karachi: Three suspects arrested in connection with the Dr. Akash murder case were killed in an alleged police encounter in Karachi's Gulshan-e-Memar area, while a police officer was injured during the exchange of gunfire.
According to police, the incident took place in Umar Brohi Goth, where personnel of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) exchanged fire with the suspects. Police said the three men killed were the same suspects previously arrested in the Dr. Akash murder case. Their arrests had earlier been announced by DIG South Asad Raza during a press conference.
Police said Dr. Akash was shot dead during a robbery in Karachi's Clifton area after he allegedly resisted the suspects' attempt to rob him. The arrested suspects were being taken to identify locations linked to the investigation when the incident occurred.
Authorities claimed that the suspects' accomplices attacked the police party during the operation, triggering an exchange of gunfire in which all three arrested suspects were killed.
The injured police officer was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. Police said the deceased belonged to the Odh community and were identified as Suresh, Ram Chand, and Anil.
Police added that further investigations are underway, while efforts are continuing to arrest the remaining members of the gang.
