Web Desk: US President Donald Trump has reportedly refrained from approving new airstrikes on Iran last night and ordered the US military to halt operations, bringing an end to nearly two weeks of continuous daily air raids.
According to a report by the US news website Axios, after authorizing daily strikes for 13 consecutive days, President Trump did not approve the planned attack for Friday. However, it remains unclear whether this decision is temporary or signals a major shift in US policy.
The report states that President Trump believes sufficient pressure has already been applied on Iran through ongoing military operations, and that instead of getting further involved in a broader war, it is more appropriate to allow diplomatic efforts a chance.
It further adds that the US military remains fully prepared in the region in view of possible escalation, but President Trump has not ordered any new military action for now.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters at the White House, President Trump said that strikes against Iran could resume if necessary, and that the United States has the full capability to destroy all of Iran’s military capabilities.
