Web Desk: The election campaign for the first phase of the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections in the three districts of the Mirpur Division ended at midnight, while the dispatch of election material to polling stations will begin today (Sunday).
In the first phase, polling will be held on July 27 in a total of 13 constituencies across the districts of Mirpur, Kotli, and Bhimber in the Mirpur Division.
According to election officials, a total of 1,401,439 registered voters will exercise their right to vote in these constituencies, including 725,118 male voters and 675,628 female voters.
A total of 2,454 polling stations have been established in the Mirpur Division, including 597 for 4 constituencies in Mirpur district, 1,107 for 6 constituencies in Kotli district, and 608 for 3 constituencies in Bhimber district.
A total of 296 candidates from various political parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League (N), Pakistan Peoples Party, and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, along with independent candidates, are contesting in the 13 constituencies.
According to political observers, a tough and closely contested race is expected in LA-3 Mirpur, LA-6 Bhimber, and LA-10 Kotli between the Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Muslim League (N), and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party.
Meanwhile, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan has announced its full support for the Pakistan Muslim League (N) in the Azad Kashmir elections. After a meeting in Bahadurabad, senior MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar said that all party candidates will withdraw in favor of the PML-N, making the electoral contest even more interesting
