Muzaffarabad: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has emerged victorious in the first phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections. With unofficial and provisional results declared for all 13 constituencies in the Mirpur Division, PML-N has secured 9 seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has won 4 seats.
Polling was held peacefully on Monday across the 13 constituencies of Mirpur, Bhimber, and Kotli. Voting officially ended at 5:00 p.m., after which an additional hour was provided for voters already present at polling stations. Vote counting was subsequently completed, and the unofficial and provisional results for all constituencies were announced.
According to the results, PML-N won LA-1 Mirpur, LA-4 Mirpur, LA-5 Bhimber, LA-6 Bhimber, LA-7 Bhimber, LA-9 Kotli, LA-11 Kotli, LA-12 Kotli, and LA-13 Kotli.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) claimed victory in LA-2 Mirpur, LA-3 Mirpur, LA-8 Kotli, and LA-10 Kotli, securing four seats in the first phase.
Among the key contests, Chaudhry Muhammad Razaq of PML-N won LA-6 Bhimber with 32,732 votes, defeating Ali Shan Chaudhry of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, who secured 26,718 votes. In LA-10 Kotli, PPP’s Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen was declared the winner with 12,431 votes, while PML-N’s Fateh Mahmood-ul-Hassan finished second with 9,245 votes.
The first-phase results have placed PML-N in a commanding position in the AJK elections, while PPP maintained a strong electoral presence by securing four constituencies. The outcome is expected to play a significant role in shaping the political landscape of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
