Islamabad: The Supreme Court has ordered the transfer of PTI founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for medical examination and treatment until the next hearing.
The court also directed that a medical board be constituted for Imran Khan and that he be transferred to the hospital under tight security. It further ordered that his complete medical record be submitted before the next hearing.
During the hearing of cases related to Imran Khan’s meetings with his family and his medical treatment, Justice Shahid Waheed questioned why his complete medical record had not been presented before the court, noting that the material provided was only a summary of the medical report.
The court was informed that Imran Khan’s medical reports mention the need for angiography. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan asked whether angiography could be performed in jail, to which the Advocate General Islamabad replied that the procedure could be carried out at a hospital outside the prison.
Justice Shahid Waheed remarked that according to the medical reports, Imran Khan’s pulse and cardiac condition were not normal, while his vital organs had also begun showing signs of impact.
Court Orders Weekly Family Meetings
The Supreme Court also expressed strong remarks regarding meetings between Imran Khan and his family. Justice Shahid Waheed said that meeting with his sisters is not a favor but a fundamental right.
The court ordered that Imran Khan be allowed to meet his family once a week. It also sought complete records from Adiala Jail authorities regarding his family meetings over the past three years, as well as records of phone conversations with his children.
The court also allowed Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Uzma Khan to remain with Imran Khan.
The Supreme Court directed all parties to refrain from making political statements regarding Imran Khan’s treatment, stating that his health and medical care should not be used for political purposes. All expenses of his treatment at the private hospital will be borne by PTI.
The court also sought complete details of Imran Khan’s cases, including pending cases, cases in which he has been convicted, and suspended sentences.
The Supreme Court directed that strict security be ensured during Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital and that law and order outside the hospital should not be disrupted. The hearing of the case was adjourned until September 16.
